How to find work-life balance: tips from an employee benefits expert

Do you feel like you’re always working and never have time for yourself? If so, you’re not alone. A lot of people are struggling to find work-life balance. In this article, we’ll discuss some tips from an employee benefits expert on how to achieve work-life balance. We’ll also talk about the importance of using your employee benefits plan to help you out!

What is work-life balance?

Most people think of work-life balance as having enough time for both work and the other important aspects of your life. This includes your family. Friends. Hobbies. And personal interests like being a good neighbor. It’s important to have a healthy balance between work and the rest of your life so that you don’t get burned out or become too stressed.

Set boundaries between work and home

There are a few different ways that you can achieve work-life balance. One way is to set boundaries between your work and personal life. This can mean setting a specific time each day that you’re going to focus on work. Then, of course, make sure that you’re not working during personal time. This can be difficult if you work from home, but it’s important to try to stick to your boundaries as much as possible.

Unplug when you’re not on the clock

Speaking of setting boundaries, don’t fall into the habit of replying to emails after hours. Whether it’s after work on a Tuesday, or whether you’re on a full vacation – learn to unplug from work during your personal or family time. It’s not family time if you’re merely physically sharing the same space, but mentally still engaged with the problems or even successes of the workday.

Do work you love: the best work-life balance

Another way to achieve work life balance is to make sure that you’re doing work that you love. It’s important to find a career that you’re passionate about so that you don’t dread going to work each day. When you love what you do, it’s easy to find the motivation to keep working even when things get tough.

This doesn’t mean you should hand in your resignation today if your job isn’t providing meaning and purpose in your life. But look down the road a few years, and consider what you need to do today, to help you move towards a more inspiring career. This may mean learning new skills, or saving an emergency fund so you can eventually make the transition.

Take your paid time off

Throughout the year, keep a pulse on your paid time off days. If you’re not planning to use them all at once for a vacation, make sure you use them for things you want to do. This might be as simple as taking a day to volunteer at your daughter’s kindergarten, or spending some time with your Dad. Just keep an eye on that calander, so you don’t end up losing them at the end of the year!

Use your employee benefits plan

Make sure you make use of your employee benefits plan. Some plans offer a variety of resources that can help you with things like childcare, transportation, and even mental health. If you’re not sure what your benefits plan offers, talk to your HR representative. We work with employers and HR departments all the time, and we can tell you that your employer has created your employee benefits plan because they care about you and your well-being.
