Intel asks SCOTUS to clarify ERISA's statute of limitations

Fiduciaries to Intel Corp.’s defined contribution plans have petitioned the Supreme Court to clarify the Employee Retirement Income Security Act’s statute of limitations. Intel’s petition arises from a claim first brought in 2015 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. A former Intel employee alleged fiduciaries to two defined contribution plans sponsored by the firm breached ERISA by loading a target-date fund with large allocations to hedge funds and private equity investments. Read More

Hospitals increasingly investing in (and profiting from) physicians

Doctors really pull in the money for hospitals – to the tune of $2.4 million a year per facility on average, according to a survey of hospital CFOs by physician search firm Merritt Hawkins. Think that’s a lot? You can probably expect it to grow. The latest figures represent a 52 percent increase over 2016 data. Specialists in particular are significant revenue generators, the CFOS say, with cardiovascular surgeons, invasive cardiologists, neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons all generating more than $3 million in revenue each per year. Read More
